Shafaqna English- The current Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo involves a strain of the Bundibugyo virus that has never been identified before, according to researchers. This finding points to a new transmission event from animals to humans, distinct from variants responsible for previous outbreaks. A team of researchers from Congo, Uganda, Belgium, and several other nations examined the genetic structure of virus samples taken from 22 patients in Congo and Uganda. They discovered that the outbreak strain is genetically different from the Bundibugyo Ebola viruses that were responsible for outbreaks in 2007 and 2012.
