Farmer fined thousands after cow with 'severe' injury taken to abattoir
['Daniel Angelini']
Wiltshire Times | News
The injured animal was assessed by the Official Veterinarian, who found significant swelling and visible bleeding in the right forelimb’s carpal joint and considered the animal unfit for transport.
"The enforcement action taken reflects the seriousness of the offence and reinforces the importance of complying with animal welfare legislation."
Animal welfare legislation prohibits the transport of animals that are injured, ill, or otherwise unable to travel without suffering unnecessarily.
APNs offer an alternative to prosecution for certain animal health and welfare offences and do not result in a criminal conviction.
Concerns about livestock welfare can be reported to Wiltshire Council’s Animal Health team on 0300 456 0100.
