The trail, which is suitable for all ages, forms part of this year’s "Everyday Histories" theme for Heritage Open Days. It draws on wartime diaries preserved in the museum’s archives to offer a personal look at the working lives of REME soldiers who kept the British Army operational across Europe. The REME Museum tells the story of the corps that "keep the punch in the Army’s fist," and is based next to the home of REME at MOD Lyneham. Although entry is usually ticketed, the Heritage Open Days scheme gives first-time and returning visitors an opportunity to explore the museum at no cost. Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, offering free access to heritage events and activities across England every September.
