Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi, the mayor of the 5th district, wrote an open letter to Dávid Vitézy, Minister of Transport and Investment, and to Gergely Karácsony, Lord Mayor of Budapest, after a proposal emerged that would return several important district public spaces to the management of the capital. In his open letter, Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi deemed it insufficient that observations on the proposal can only be submitted until 15 August. The mayor called for a prior needs assessment to be conducted among the residents of the 5th district, and further proposed that the mayor, the minister, and the Lord Mayor hold personal discussions on the proposal. The mayor also pointed out that the squares are accessible exclusively via streets and areas owned by the 5th district. Péter Szentgyörgyvölgyi wrote that it “would also be a step that endangers the public interest” if the current unified system of management were to come to an end.
