The Joint Aviation Command Chinook will take to the skies above Ayr shorefront on both days of the popular event. The flypasts will take place on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5. The Chinook is instantly recognisable due to its two sets of rotor blades, which rotate in opposite directions and allow the helicopter to perform advanced manoeuvres. Its distinctive rotor system also produces a sound which can often be heard before the aircraft comes into sight. The Chinook is one of a number of aircraft set to appear at the 2026 International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight, with further aerial display announcements expected ahead of the event.
