NET Web DeskKohima, August 12: Nagaland Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to defer the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, and undertake comprehensive consultations with stakeholders and political parties before proceeding with the legislation.
While acknowledging the need to regulate foreign contributions in the interests of national security, sovereignty and public order, the MP stressed that legitimate organisations working for public welfare should also be protected.
Citing FCRA figures, Jamir said 22,498 registrations have been cancelled across India, while another 15,212 registrations could not be renewed and have expired.
He further stated that in Nagaland, around 70 per cent of the 262 FCRA registrations have been cancelled, raising concerns over the impact on organisations dependent on foreign contributions for their activities.
The MP called for broader consultations before the proposed legislation is taken forward, saying the concerns of legitimate civil society and public welfare organisations should be adequately addressed.
