NET Web DeskThousands of people from different Christian denominations gathered in Aizawl, Mizoram’s capital, to protest against the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill.
The rally, organized by the newly formed Council of Churches in Mizoram (CCM), brought together nine major churches, including the Presbyterian Church of India and the Baptist Church of Mizoram.
Several legislators, including Leader of Opposition Lalchhandama Ralte, joined the rally, alongside elderly citizens voicing fears of discrimination.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma previously stated that the Mizoram government and church leaders had urged the Centre to refer the Bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee for wider consultation.
Lalduhoma clarified that the Bill would not have retrospective effect, though opposition parties like the Mizoram Congress have demanded a special assembly session to adopt a resolution against it.
