CorCom Calls General Strike, Independence Day Boycott In Manipur

NET Web DeskThe Coordination Committee (CorCom), an umbrella organisation of six banned underground groups in Manipur, has called for a total general strike and boycott of India’s Independence Day on August 15.
CorCom said essential services, including medical emergencies, electricity, water supply, fire services, the press and religious ceremonies, would remain exempt from the strike.
CorCom said Independence Day has no historical or political connection with Manipur, which it refers to as Kangleipak.
The group also alleged attempts by central authorities to alter Manipur’s territorial integrity and geographical boundaries.
CorCom warned that, in its view, failure to pursue self-determination would lead to the erosion of indigenous cultures and populations, and described the independence movement as essential to protecting Manipur’s future.
