American Humane Society, the country’s first national animal welfare organization, based in Washington D.C., has announced the semi-finalists of this year’s Hero Dog Awards. It’s a nationwide competition that searches for and recognizes America’s standout dogs in five categories, including therapy dogs, service and guide/hearing dogs, military dogs, law enforcement and first responder dogs, and emerging hero dogs. The Hero Dog Awards, often referred to as the Oscars for canines, celebrates the most courageous and inspiring pups from across the country. Blek is now an older dog, an all-black German Shepherd “who enjoys lounging and playing with his toys. Now, America will vote to see which dogs will make it to the finals and have the opportunity to receive American Humane’s Hero Dog Award.
