The family of a Perth stabbing victim is demanding an independent inquiry into the release of killer Robbie Smullen who attacked two new victims on his first day of freedom. Now Barry’s aunt Jade Taylor is calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances leading to Smullen’s release by SPS. The aunt called into question the protocols surrounding Smullen’s release from Castle Huntley, claiming he was left unsupervised at a hostel in Dundee. For his latest attacks, the killer almost immediately breached the restrictions of his temporary release by travelling to Perth. “It was obvious based on his history he would not comply with the conditions of his temporary release so while it’s incomprehensible he was awarded temporary release in the first place he should absolutely have been on a tag.”
