Sixteen kidnap victims have been rescued in Kogi State after a Nigerian Army-led joint security operation tracked their abductors across local government boundaries. The operation forced the criminals to abandon their captives during a firefight near Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area. The rescue followed the abduction of commuters on Sunday, 9 August, along the Ojuwo-Ajengo-Memarebo and Ojiwo-Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area. The Kogi operation also demonstrates the value of combining military capability with local intelligence and the presence of other security agencies. The Nigerian Army commended the public for providing timely information and urged citizens to maintain cooperation with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.
