In Soria the median price has climbed to around €879, while some rooms have reached €900 or higher. More than half of analysed municipalities have raised prices, some by over 100 pc, reflecting strong demand from eclipse travellers. The consulting firm AFI forecasts that rural towns along the path of totality will gain over €362m in visitor spending during eclipse week. Close to 75 pc of Spain’s rural municipalities lack formal hotels, and short-term holiday rentals in private homes outnumber hotel rooms by a 40-to-1 ratio. The massive influx of astrotourism for the eclipse poses an unprecedented infrastructure and overcrowding challenge for small, rural Spanish villages.
