Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju said he has petitioned the United States, United Kingdom and Canada to demand sanctions on Osun East senator, Francis Fadahunsi for allegedly threatening members of the Accord Party in the build-up to the August 15 gubernatorial election in Osun. He descirbed the senator’s alleged remarks as “unfortunate” and “regrettably threatening”, noting that they could encourage violence against Accord Party members. Adeyanju disclosed that he has asked the US, UK and Canada to consider imposing visa restrictions and other sanctions on the senator. He stated that the petition was intended to draw the attention of the three countries, particularly the US which has expressed interest in promoting democracy in Nigeria and has warned against political violence. Adeyanju also called on all leading political candidates to condemn calls for violence against their opposing camps.
