Report from LDR by Justin WongThe Regional Council plans to remove the rusting 38-year-old canopy and station building at Waterloo station, Lower Hutt’s busiest public transport interchange, at the end of next year. A long-discussed facelift for the tired-looking station – poorly lit and offering commuters little protection from the weather – has been on the agenda for years. Once the roof is removed, the council would repair the platforms and install several shelters — a setup likened to Johnsonville Station and described as “the bare minimum”. Connelley didn’t believe a Waterloo station with barebone offerings was beneficial for commuters in the long term.
