That makes the socialist organization considerably less racially diverse than the New York City population — and even the Democratic Party as a whole. The Democratic Party is approximately 56% white, according to Pew Research Center. The DSA and NYC-DSA’s ranks have swelled since then, with nationwide membership ticking up over 120,000 and the New York City chapter eclipsing 15,600.
