Wellington Households To March Against Tiaki Wai On Thursday 20 Aug’26: Demands Debt And Spending Excesses Be Reined InA protest march is being organised to demand that Tiaki Wai stop taking on new debt and launching costly projects until serious concerns over democratic accountability and governance, household affordability and public consultation are addressed. Organisers say Wellington households are being asked to shoulder increasing water costs while having no meaningful say over the unelected Board making decisions that commit them to billions of dollars in debt. An independently audited, fully costed 10-year financial plan;Meaningful consultation with households before major projects proceed; andExisting infrastructure problems to be fixed before billions more are borrowed. Organisers are urging Wellington residents to join the march and demand that Tiaki Wai go back to the drawing board.
