In 28 percent of the reefs studied, the coverage with living corals increased. The Great Barrier Reef has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981 and is the largest coral reef in the world. In the north and center of the Great Barrier Reef, the coverage with living hard corals has recently increased again.
