Asotin County issued a Level 1, or “get ready,” evacuation notice at about 7 p.m. for the Westlake Drive area that overlooks the Snake River and the mouth of Alpowa Creek. The evacuation notice was upgraded to Level 2 notice, or “set,” at about 8 p.m. At about 9 p.m. the notice was upgraded to a Level 3, "go now." Two helicopters and two single-engine air tankers dropped water on the fire until it became too dark. Hardin said every fire department in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley and Whitman County Fire District 14 was helping with the suppression effort. A Type 3 firefighting team from the state of Washington is expected to take over suppression duties as soon as Wednesday morning.
