Purushottampur(Ganjam): Farmers have alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Purushottampur Cooperative Society Ltd in Ganjam district, accusing its secretary, G Lokanath Achary, of allegedly favouring his family in the disbursal of agricultural loans while farmers were being denied due consideration. Farmers alleged that Achary had secured loans in the names of his mother, brother, sister and wife, despite claiming that neither he nor his family members had agricultural land or were engaged in farming. A further Rs 60,000 was allegedly taken under a JLC group loan in the name of his wife, Ruby. The farmers have sought verifi cation of the landholdings of Achary and his family members and details of the land and crops for which the loans were obtained. When contacted, Achary said he had taken the loans because he needed the money and dismissed the allegations as completely false.
