ROCHESTER — With primary election results from 36 of 80 Rochester precincts reporting as of about 10:45 p.m., local restaurateur Joe Powers and clinical psychologist Jess Garcia are the two top vote-getters in the eight-person race to be the city’s next mayor.
ADVERTISEMENTAs of 11 p.m., Powers had received 47.9% of the counted votes, followed by Garcia with 25% in early and unofficial results.
ADVERTISEMENTIn addition to narrowing the candidates for mayor on Tuesday, voters in portions of northeast and northwest Rochester selected the top candidates for the Ward 5 seat on the Rochester City Council.
The Rochester City Council will review and certify the primary election results at 1 p.m. Friday in council chambers of the city-county Government Center, 151 Fourth St.
Also slated for the Nov. 3 ballot are Rochester City Council Ward 1 incumbent Patrick Keane and challenger Lisa Ross, and Rochester City Council Ward 3 incumbent Norman Wahl and challenger LaMar Hicks.
