An apparent lightning strike at a prison in northern Ohio has sent 16 inmates to an outside hospital for treatment, including one who was flown by medical helicopter, according to state officials.
The lightning strike occurred Tuesday evening at Grafton Correctional Institution while incarcerated people were returning from their evening meal, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC).
Initial information indicates that all 16 people were being transported outside the prison for medical treatment.
It is unclear whether the group was directly struck by lightning or injured by its effects.
