Hyderabad: Facial recognition technology helped Hyderabad police identify eight old offenders among 116 suspicious persons detained during the Lal Darwaza Bonalu celebrations.
The police said the heightened surveillance ensured that no theft or chain-snatching case was reported during the two-day festivities.
Facial recognition checks for offenders on criminal databasePolice used Facial Recognition System (FRS) cameras installed at the Lal Darwaza festival venue along with the department’s criminal database to verify the identities and backgrounds of suspicious persons.
Police kept a close watch on habitual offenders, people with previous property-related cases and those suspected of following specific criminal modus operandi.
No mobile phone theft, chain-snatching or other theft case was reported during the Lal Darwaza Bonalu celebrations, according to the Additional CP.
