August 14 and the Silent Sentinels of the Sea
['Sajid Salamat']
Daily Times
Pakistan Navy was raised almost simultaneously with the country itself, a young force with limited assets but an unmistakable sense of purpose.
Through persistent surface, sub-surface, and aerial capabilities, Pakistan Navy maintains a continuous vigil over territorial waters and the wider Exclusive Economic Zone.
This active posture was clearly demonstrated through Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr (Protector of the Sea), launched to safeguard Pakistan’s Sea Lines of Communication (SLOCs) and guarantee the uninterrupted flow of national energy supplies amidst heightened regional tensions and threats to shipping lanes.
By escorting merchant vessels and maintaining strict surveillance over critical sea routes, the Pakistan Navy ensured that the nation’s economic engine remained operational without disruption.
For the Pakistan Navy, this means officers and sailors standing watch on ships far out at sea while families ashore celebrate the very freedom they safeguard.
