By Azara LaviaMusic producer and composer Andrew Dorsett has described Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s public criticism of Soca artiste Tian Winter as insulting, disappointing and condescending, and is urging that there should be more respect for local artistes. Browne, commenting online, advised Winter to use artificial intelligence and other technologies to improve his musical production, achieve greater longevity and remain relevant. The Prime Minister also described some locally produced music as “stale” and not exportable, and suggested that Winter needed to “level up.” “To me, those comments were clearly insulting rather than constructive,” Dorsett said, adding that public criticism from someone in the position of PM must be handled carefully. He said they should not be raised through a condescending public post from the country’s Prime Minister.
