CARACAS (Reuters) : Venezuela’s government said on Tuesday it has agreed with Israel to establish a coordination mechanism to enable consular services, a dramatic shift in Venezuela’s geopolitical alignment after it broke relations with Israel in 2009.
Venezuela, which ended relations 17 years ago over Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, was historically allied with Iran but its government has become more aligned with Washington since the US captured President Nicolas Maduro in January.
