Penrith City Council is assessing a Development Application (DA) to use the first floor of the old Stafford Street Medical Centre as shop top housing. The DA explains that the medical centre, which has moved to a new location, will remain as is on the ground floor, but should the application be successful, alterations will be made to turn the level above into a two-bedroom unit. The medical centre had been operating out of the site at 128 Stafford Street for four decades before moving. The documents attached to the DA say that the shop top housing will benefit the local community. “The change of use from a medical centre to shop top housing remains consistent with the objectives of the zone being that: It provides for the housing needs of the community,” the Statement of Environmental Effects (SEE) attached to the DA said.
