Former NFL reporter Michele Tafoya won the Minnesota Republican Senate primary race on Tuesday night.
NBC News and The New York Times called the race.
Tafoya ran without President Donald Trump's endorsement, but had cozied up to the Trump administration on issues like immigration.
"She has embraced the Trump administration’s handling of immigration after its deadly crackdown in Minnesota in the winter, which polls suggested was unpopular," The New York Times reported.
"Ms. Tafoya’s campaign website says the 'American people overwhelmingly agree with President Trump that our border should be secure, our laws should be enforced, and criminal illegal immigrants should be deported.'"
