Members of the press and some of the president’s own staff were unwittingly left behind on the old Air Force One amid an assassination threat from Iran. This conversation addressed concerns stemming from the Washington Post reporting, including “press safety, the ability of the pool to maintain an independent record of the president’s movements and the integrity and credibility of pooled reporting.” The president of the @WHCA, @JacquiHeinrich, sent out a memo to the WH press corps after meeting with Steven Cheung and other Trump admin officials today about the secret plane switch. The statement drew criticism online as people pointed to journalists being used as a “decoy target” in the plane switch operation.
