Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has retained the support of National Party MPs following an “urgent” 3.5-hour caucus meeting in Wellington on Wednesday. Speaking at Parliament after the meeting, Luxon said he had the “full support of my caucus” following a confidence vote in his leadership. Having survived his second confidence vote, following the first in April, Luxon stressed the need for National to defeat opposition the next election. Several National MPs arriving at Parliament on Wednesday morning declined to publicly confirm their support for the Prime Minister. The caucus meeting came as Luxon’s preferred-prime-minister rating fell again in the latest 1News Verian poll.
