The City of Duluth will begin forest management work along Mission Creek this week. The project will include cutting brush, felling trees, planting new trees and removing invasive plant species. Some work will take place on slumps, or a sliding mass of dirt, along the creek and in the floodplain, where natural tree regeneration is weak. The goal is to increase native tree species like White Pine, White Cedar, Red Oak and Yellow Birch in the Mission Forest. Mission Forest management work is expected to continue for several years, mostly during the summer.
