Last year, there was no Independence Day parade or State-sponsored fireworks display, with the Government citing security concerns during the then-ongoing State of Emergency (SoE). While the fireworks display were cancelled, “silent” fireworks were permitted for private use as the Government sought to reduce noise disturbances affecting vulnerable people and pets. A professionally managed national display is very different from hours of uncontrolled fireworks being discharged across residential communities.” It is also calling for measures to discourage uncontrolled fireworks before and after the official display. CANPTT added, “If fireworks form part of the official Independence celebrations, then they should be controlled, time-limited and planned with consideration for the people and animals who will be affected.
