The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially marked a bold shift toward climate action and technological advancement with the launch of the UNIBEN Campus Green Belt Initiative alongside plans for an ambitious, multi-disciplinary innovation ecosystem. At the heart of the environmental strategy is the UNIBEN Campus Green Belt, an experimental field site where digital tools are directly applied to ecological and agricultural challenges. This builds upon the university’s broader environmental drive that has already seen the planting of over 5,000 trees across campus. Directly linked to this field laboratory is a state-of-the-art innovation ecosystem designed to accelerate local research, digital skill acquisition, and regional entrepreneurship. Finally, learning-to-value integration establishes a continuous feedback loop between university research and local farming networks to build sustainable food systems and regional economic resilience.
