The Pearl River County Historical Society will hold its monthly potluck tomorrow, August 12, at 1:00 p.m.
The topic for discussion will be “Tick Wars: Southern Yeoman Fight Back Against the Big Boys, 1906-1946.”
For the past forty years, southern cattle ranchers, scientists, and government officials have mandated programs to eliminate a cattle tick that carries diseases, ensuring that cattle can be safely transported to northern markets.
This free presentation will illustrate how yeomen, including those from Mississippi and Pearl River County, fought back against these hefty mandates that negatively impacted farmers with small herds.
