ORIGINAL: 3:44 p.m.As firefighters continue battling the Ainslie Creek wildfire as it pushes toward Merritt and Highway 8, a new spot fire has sparked ahead of the blaze. The new fire is burning a few kilometres west of Lower Nicola and is listed as out of control. Meanwhile, the Ainslie Creek wildfire continues moving east and is now close to Highway 8 and the Nicola River in an area off Shackelly Road, according to BCWS mapping.
