Less than two weeks before its season opener, an Illinois high school football team has opted to cancel its entire 2026 varsity campaign. Eisenhower High School, which is based in Decatur, Illinois, joins Litchfield Senior High School in canceling its varsity football season. “The school’s junior varsity football program will continue as scheduled, providing student-athletes with the opportunity to participate and develop within the program. “The school has notified the Illinois High School Association, scheduled opponents, student-athletes, families and coaching staff of this decision.” Four Iowa programs in Iowa programs have also canceled their varsity seasons this year, with Davis County becoming the latest.
