Federal Government targets commercial solar gap

Expected to commence from 1 October 2026, subject to regulations being in place, the change is designed to address a gap between Australia’s world-leading residential solar uptake and the commercial rooftop market.

The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme, administered by the Clean Energy Regulator, has provided incentives for small-scale renewable energy installations since 2011.
Under Federal Government estimates, a 250 kW solar system could receive a discount of approximately $68,000, while a 500 kW system could receive around $136,000.
“We’ve long called for measures to help bridge the gap between Australia’s world-leading uptake of rooftop solar on homes and small businesses, and utility scale projects.
