SUPERIOR — Voters could have their say in April on whether or not the city of Superior moves ahead with a proposal to acquire Superior Water, Light and Power’s water utility infrastructure. ADVERTISEMENTThat question: "Should the City transition to a community-owned water utility in the event the PSC (Public Service Commission of Wisconsin) determines the purchase cost to be a number within the City’s financial means?" Paine said it will still take two City Council meetings to potentially get the question on the ballot next spring. SWL&P sought its own study of the value of the utilities that put the cost of a city takeover of the water utility at $186 million, with water utility assets valued at $136.7 million. Councilor Tylor Elm asked, if the referendum passes, would it obligate the city to pursue the acquisition of the water utility.
