Drew Brees could have spent his Pro Football Hall of Fame speech talking about passing records, Super Bowl memories or the countless milestones from one of the greatest quarterback careers in NFL history. “One of the most life-changing events occurred my junior year of high school,” Brees said. After leading the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl championship in 2010, he thanked “my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” during the postgame trophy presentation. Near the end of his speech, Brees also reflected on why youth sports matter, arguing they’re about much more than wins and losses. “Youth sports, and especially high school football, should always be about character and leadership development, teamwork and positive affiliation,” he said.
