A monocular camera attached to the glasses uses computer vision and other AI technology to create a 3-D map of the world.
IRIS is formally described as a “low-cost spatiotemporal AI framework for visually impaired navigation in complex urban environments.”
Last month, IRIS was recognized by the Carnegie Young Leaders program, which provides a stipend, mentorship and training.
Du is working with four other people — Rinesh Sunthar, Kavin Dassanaike-Perera, Sophie Li and Angela Wei — on the IRIS project.
The money will go toward advertising and marketing the glasses, Du said.
