Such a move would help the Golden Triangle, which is still struggling to fill offices in the wake of the pandemic, the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership said.
That means Downtown leaders need to invest in upgrading existing office space and converting unused office towers to other uses, she said.
According to data presented by the partnership, about 647,000 square feet of former office space already has been converted to other purposes.
That’s more than three times the amount of square footage in the 64-story U.S. Steel Tower — which totals over 2.3 million square feet — alone.
“We feel this is a critical tool to consider to see investment here in Downtown Pittsburgh,” Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership President and CEO Jeremy Waldrup said of the proposed Transit Revitalization Investment District.
