The BC SPCA is urging pet owners to take precautions during air quality advisories to keep animals comfortable during wildfire season. The organization said many of the same precautions recommended for people also apply to cats, dogs and other animals. For dogs, the BC SPCA recommends limiting time outdoors. “Focus on only brief bathroom breaks during an air quality advisory and avoid strenuous exercise until air quality improves,” reads their statement. For cats, the BC SPCA recommends keeping indoor air as clean as possible because cats can inhale smoke and ingest particles while grooming their fur.
