The Kingston City Council is set to meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall for its regular monthly meeting, facing a concise three-item agenda headlined by a proposed overhaul of city utility charges.
The primary item centers on a proposed revision to the policies and procedures of the Kingston Water Works and Sewer Department.
If approved, the change would eliminate sewer fees for water customers whose properties are not connected to the city’s sewer system, provided they meet specific requirements in the revised ordinance.
For decades, the city’s existing ordinance permitted sewer charges to be assessed to certain unconnected water customers.
The policy came under scrutiny after property owners outside the city limits regularly attended council meetings to protest paying sewer fees for unconnected properties.
