A Bethlehem man has died after a drunk driver crashed into his disabled pickup on Interstate 40 near Statesville. The driver of the 2002 Ram 1500, Ernest Duncan Ames IV, 45, of Tracy Bolick Lane, Hickory (Bethlehem), was in the rear cab of his truck in the emergency lane and was ejected after the collision. The driver of the 2021 Ram 3500, Kevin Guadalupe-Quintana, 28, of Mount Airy, appeared to be exceeding the posted speed limit while also under the influence of alcohol. Mr. Quintana was arrested by Troopers on-scene and was charged with Felony Death by Motor vehicle and several other charges. He was transported to the Iredell County Magistrates Office where he was issued a $750,000 secured bond and then booked into the Iredell County Detention Center, according to Trooper Macchia.
