A large suburban reservoir moved closer to reaching capacity on Tuesday afternoon after powerful storms brought intense winds and heavy rain to parts of the Chicago area. The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District's McCook Reservoir reached 97% capacity by 2:34 p.m., up roughly 2% from the night prior. WATCH HERE WATCH HEREThe district's largest, the Thornton Reservoir, was 57% full, while the Majewski Reservoir in Elk Grove Village was empty, according to the district's website. If the TARP system takes on too much water, it can lead to flooding, including into the basements of residences and businesses. Untreated sewage can then make its way into area rivers and can overflow from sewers, causing neighborhood and basement flooding.
