Arsenal are reportedly exploring a move for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde after being priced out of a deal for Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa. According to Sport, Arsenal are monitoring the situation of the versatile Frenchman during the final days of the transfer window. Kounde’s ability to operate at both centre-back and right-back is understood to appeal to Arteta as Arsenal seek defensive reinforcements. Arsenal had initially identified Konsa as their main defensive target but were put off by Aston Villa’s valuation of more than €75m for the England international. Kounde’s position at Barcelona has also changed under head coach Hansi Flick, with the Frenchman reportedly no longer considered untouchable.
