ASOTIN — Motorists who travel along State Route 129 between Asotin and Clarkston will soon have to stop for pedestrians crossing the highway to the bike path. At Monday’s Asotin County Commission meeting, the county engineer said the Washington State Department of Transportation plans to install a traffic signal at the busy intersection this fall. The popular stretch of highway has a 55 mph speed limit, but drivers will have to hit the brakes if the red light is flashing. The idea is to create a safer route for folks at the bottom of Critchfield Road who want to get to the trail system next to the Snake River. “It’s a state road, but we’ll get the feedback.”
