Former State Sen. Nicole Mitchell will make the case for her felony burglary conviction to be overturned late next month.
Oral arguments before a three-judge Minnesota Court of Appeals panel are scheduled for Sept. 30, more than a year after the Woodbury Democrat appealed her conviction and sentence.
Mitchell was convicted last year on counts of first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools after she was arrested in April 2024 for breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home.
A judge ordered Mitchell to serve 180 days of work release and five years of supervised probation for the crime.
Mitchell, who resigned from the Minnesota Senate in the wake of her criminal conviction, is attempting a political comeback this year with a run for Woodbury City Council.
