CROSSLAKE — The Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District will host a free well water nitrate testing event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, at Crosslake City Hall, 13888 Daggett Bay Road in Crosslake.
The Minnesota Department of Health recommends private wells be tested for nitrate every year.
ADVERTISEMENTHowever, high levels of nitrate in water can be a result of runoff or leakage from fertilized soil, wastewater, landfills, animal feedlots, septic systems or urban drainage.
Other area testing events will be Aug. 13 at Garrison City Hall, 27069 Central Street in Garrison; and Aug. 28 in the lower level of the Crow Wing County Land Services building, 322 Laurel St. in Brainerd.
