Governor General Louise Arbour has busy first visit to Quebec City Peter Black Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph, Local Journalism Initiative peterblack@qctonline.com Governor General Louise Arbour wasted little time during a six-day visit to the Quebec capital, during which she stayed at her second official residence at the Citadelle. Her schedule was jam-packed with events ranging from helping decorate cupcakes at the Grand Marché, to taking in les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France, to inspecting the troops of the Royal 22e Régiment. Arbour was sworn in as the 31st royal representative on June 6, replacing Mary Simon, who had completed a five-year term. A former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Arbour has spent much of her career in international criminal law and global human rights leadership. As Canada’s commander-in-chief, she has in-depth knowledge of military issues, having led a review leading to recommen- dations for reforms to address sexual misconduct and institutional culture.
