Awerco Construction Limited, contractors for the Weija Paediatric Hospital, has handed over the 130-bed facility to the Ministry of Health, paving the way for its commissioning and eventual operationalisation. The handover ceremony, monitored by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), took place on August 7, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Weija Paediatric Hospital. However, the Office stressed that its investigations into allegations of procurement breaches, financial impropriety and other related matters concerning the project remain ongoing. “The handing over and subsequent operationalisation of the hospital do not in anyway affect or prejudice the investigations currently being conducted by EOCO,” the statement said. EOCO commended the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for “demonstrating commitment to the national interest” and complying with the terms of the agreement reached through the facilitated engagements.
